The Miracle of Life

Let me deviate from the plants that make up my garden to the native animals that wander it.  We have seen raccoons, skunks, cats, mice, chipmunks, squirrels, ducks, and more than four dozen species of birds, but we experienced a first this weekend.

Saturday morning in the middle of the garden, I noted a doe and her white speckled fawn.  After sharing photos with my boss who knows a thing or two about deer, he told us that likely the fawn was born 12 hours before we discovered him/her.

I believe the fawn has been hiding in our yard ever since.  (We have tried not to search too hard so as to not scare the baby. ) The doe comes back every morning and spends a few hours.  Then we see her again in the evening (as I type this, I'm sitting in my sun room hoping to see the doe soon).

The fawn disrupted our weekend as we had hoped to do a lot of mulching but this miracle of life is just incredible.  Here are some pictures:

Spring is here

The tulips are blooming and oh how beautiful they are!

Astilbe that seem to double in size each day.

My dad also built me the most beautiful benches and planters and with the sun shining and warm weather this evening I had the chance to plant them.

My new theme this year is mixing herbs and vegetables with flowers.
