Beautiful weekend!

I always know it has been a busy gardening weekend when my hands, legs, and arms are covered in little nicks and scratches, there is dirt under my nails, and my finger tips are really dry.  But what a good weekend it has been.

Here is another spring flower:

And here is my rhubarb plant.  Hopefully this year it does better.

Our peonies have begun to grow.

And our autumn joy have new growth.

Some of the plants I started from see this year really thrived like the broccoli and brussels sprouts.  Others didn’t even sprout so it was kind of weird.

Today I brought out our rosemary plant and the sage and thyme plants.  Plus I planted collard greens.  Below is a picture.  You can also see one of our three rain barrels.

Then after a trip to Stein’s I planted a number of perennials in one of the plots in the back.  Here is what I planted:

  • Oriental Lilies (Stargazer and Casa Blanca)
  • Liatris Spicata
  • Shasta Daisies (Snow Lady and Becky) (Leucanthemum
  • Showy Upright Sedum (Sedum X “Purple Emperor’)
  • Jethro Tull Tickseed (Coreopsis ‘Jethro Tull’)
  • Hybrid Speedwell (Veronica X ‘Royal Candles’)
  • Ornamental Onion (Allium Senescens ‘Glaucum’)
  • Heavenly Habit – Jacob’s Ladder (Polemonium)

Here is a picture.  You can also see in the front corner some bulbs I planted last fall.

Then in the back where the huge dead tree used to be after some serious weeding, I planted ferns and Purple Dragon Spotted Nettle (Lamium).

My dad helped me plant a bunch of bulbs in the fall that are now starting to bloom.

Snow may have covered the grass,

but spring is clearly in the air
with birds fluttering about,
an ant racing in circles,
and seedlings growing larger each day.

Last weekend I picked up some pansy plants from Home Depot and planted them in a pot outside our front door.  Here are a couple of pictures of them:

Last weekend, I planted:

  • basil
  • lettuce
  • chamomile
  • marigolds
  • convent garden
  • coreopsis

Already the marigolds and the lettuce have sprouted!  Here is a marigold seedling:

I love how spinach seedlings look.  Here is a picture:

My tomato plants are also getting a good start:

And just because I am so amazed at how well my lettuce in general is doing this year, here is a great picture:
