My Dad’s Photos of his Garden

The beans are growing very well and the broccoli has started to form a head.

The tomatoes aren’t doing as well.  And although there is a ripe pepper on one of the hot pepper plants, the plant itself looks pretty sad.  We need to improve the soil quality and pick some better soil for the next raised bed we set up.

And here are the cucumbers.

After lots of rain

The tomato and pepper plants are doing well in my yard.

The cucumbers, squash, and zucchini are growing like weeds.

The marigold plants are beautiful.  I can’t wait to see them in bloom.

My lemon tree continues to thrive and has two lemons started.

Some of the herbs are thriving, others haven’t even sprouted, and even though I didn’t plant it, spearmint is growing in one pot.

I took a few pictures of my dad’s garden as well.  The broccoli and brussels sprouts are doing really well.  The green beans have started to climb.  The tomato plants don’t look bad but they don’t seem to have grown as much as I expected them to since last time I saw them.  The basil isn’t doing very well and the radishes aren’t forming bulbs.  We probably need to add more organic material to the soil which is very clay like before next growing season.

On an unrelated note, we have a nest with three baby robins in our backyard.  The mom and dad have been very vocal about defending the next.  I had to find a time when they were both out searching for worms to get some pictures of the babies.  Enjoy!

Garden pictures after some rain and warm weather

The peonies have started blooming.

The squash, cucumbers, and zucchini are doing well.

The perennial flower garden I planted is growing nicely.  I don’t remember all the flower names (although I did write them down but am too tired to look them up now).

DSC_0273

I love these blue flowers.

DSC_0275

Here are my herbs.  I see spearmint is growing in a pot where I didn’t plant it.

DSC_0278

These are my favorite flowers in our yard.  I believe they are a type of clematis.  They are so delicate and beautiful.

I’m always amazed at our lettuce.

DSC_0287

These marigolds will be beautiful.

Now on to my Dad’s garden.  Notwithstanding the beans, radishes, etc., the broccoli, brussels sprouts, and tomatoes look incredible.

Last of the spring planting

Last weekend, my husband was a great help in getting the hydrangeas planted.  Some of them don’t look the greatest so I’m not sure they will all survive but they were dirt cheap so nothing lost.

This week I finally finished filling my pots.  I planted more lettuce, collard greens, impatiens, basil, chamomile, and convulvulus.  I also threw some mixed packets of annual flowers seeds in a plot that I’m decided not to focus on this year.  We shall see what comes up.

My peppers and tomatoes are really looking good.

This year I tried basil on top of the topsy turvey plants which is growing nicely.

I love these bearded irises.

Here are my pots of cucumbers, zucchini, and acorn squash (in that order):
